D.K.M.S. (Diplomate of Korean Medicine System), as a customized primary healthcare system, encompasses methods for treating a wide range of diseases. It addresses conditions such as ear, nose, and throat disorders, digestive problems, neurological disorders, women's health issues, geriatric diseases, and pain management. This approach utilizes treatment techniques developed by Dr. Hyun, based on the fundamental principles of Korean SAAM acupuncture and SASANG constitutional medicine.
SAAM Acupuncture Techniques (Genuine Five Element Acupuncture techniques) is a Korean classical, holistic system based on the, natural world's cycles treating the mind, body, and spirit by balancing five fundamental elements—Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water. It focuses on identifying a primary "Causative Factor" (the root imbalance) to correct energy (Qi) flow through specific acupuncture points.
This method utilizes the principles of the Five Elements (wood, fire, earth, metal, and water) to treat the root cause of illness. It primarily uses the Five Shu points below the elbows and knees, and applies tonification and sedation techniques according to the deficiency or excess of energy to restore balance in the body.
Herbal Medicine
SASANG constitutional medicine is a unique Korean system of personalized medicine founded by Lee Je-ma (1837-1900) during the late Joseon Dynasty. It classifies human constitutions into four types—Tae-Yang (Greater Yang), Tae-Eum (Greater Yin), So-Yang (Lesser Yang), and So-Eum (Lesser Yin)—based on functional differences in the five internal organs and six viscera. It then diagnoses and treats illnesses according to these different constitutional types.
Four Constitutional Classifications: Individuals are classified into four types (Tae-Yang, Tae-Eum, So-Yang, and So-Eum) based on the relative size of their lungs, liver, spleen, and kidneys.
Dongui Susebowon: This is the fundamental classic text of Sasang constitutional medicine, authored by Lee Je-Ma.
Constitution-Specific Treatment: Even for the same disease, the medication (herbal medicine) and treatment methods are applied differently depending on the individual's constitution.
Constitutional Diagnostic Factors: Constitution is diagnosed based on factors such as body type, appearance, personality, and temperament (emotions like joy, anger, sorrow, and pleasure).
Constitutional medicine goes beyond simply treating illnesses; it emphasizes "health preservation" by preventing diseases through diet and lifestyle habits tailored to one's constitution.
